Allergy Prick Tests and Scratch Tests
Why a Prick Test?
A prick test is used when a patient has allergy symptoms but is not certain what is causing the symptoms.
Skin Tests Are Useful in Diagnosing
- Food allergies
- Mold, animal, dust mite, cockroach, and pollen allergies
- Venom allergies (such as from a bee sting)
What is an Allergy Scratch / Prick Test?
Prick tests (also called scratch tests) are done on the arm or the back using a test aplicator. A small amount of a potential allergen is placed on the skin. In 15 minutes, if you are allergic to the allergen, a small itchy raised red area will appear.
